President Michael D Higgins is among those who wish Van Morrison well on his 75th birthday.

In a statement, the president said his contribution to music and songwriting is world class.

He said his lyrics are enjoyed not just across Ireland but around the world.

President Higgins was one of 75 people asked to record a special video honoring the Belfast-born composer.

Hot Press magazine asked a number of well-known Irish artists to record videos of their songs.

One of those who participated, Glen Hansard, described him as an artist who has always followed his own path throughout his entire career and has always done his thing.

Singer Mary Coughlan said she would normally never attempt to cover a song of hers, because she holds him in high regard. But when Hot Press asked her to record a cover for her birthday, she said she would.

For the past three weeks, Hot Press has broadcast videos nightly. Tonight, 11 videos with artists such as Hozier, Glen Hansard, Mary Coughlan and Bob Geldof will be streamed on the Hotpress YouTube channel.

Moya Brennan, Altan, Paul Casey with Terri Hooley, Brian Kennedy, Malaki, John Spillane will also join the celebrations tonight.

The tribute, titled ‘Rave On, Van Morrison’ continues through September 13.
