Arteta insists staggering gunners are ‘very unfortunate’

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta acknowledges that their current results are unacceptable and do not meet the high standards the club has set, but insists they have been unlucky during a seven-game winless streak.

“We have to improve, but I also think we were very unlucky not to score many more points.

“We have done well in the Europa League and in the cups, but it has cost us a lot to get results in the Premier League.

“The reason we are losing matches is because the margins are very small, but we need to (change) those margins quickly before the situation becomes impossible.”

Arsenal recorded just three shots on goal throughout the game and their form up front was not helped by the absence of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who missed with a calf problem.

The Gabon forward could miss the Christmas program.

“We want it as quickly as possible. It has a little tension and will need a few days. I don’t know if it’s a week or two, it depends on how the injury goes ”.

Ancelotti also marks his first anniversary on Monday, but after three victories in eight days, his team is in second place.

“I think we are doing very well this season,” he said.

“This season we started better and now we are in a good position in the table and in the last three games we showed a lot of consistency, a lot of spirit and we have to be happy with what we are doing now.”
