Dundalk chains some passes together very well, but the attack stops abruptly when Mountney hits his cross.

Still, there were signs of encouragement for visitors with the number of bodies they were willing to put in the box.

Pepe heads a little further after a cross. Moments later, Nelson shoots from the edge of the area.

Dundalk needs to be better in possession to quell the pressure on his goal. They have given away the ball too cheap so far.

Gartland hits a cross just ahead of Nketiah and clears for a corner.

Dundalk has defended well so far, but Arsenal’s attacks have been a bit more relentless than Filippo Giovagnoli would like.

Andy Boyle has a last minute tackle to make after Willock wanders away from Shields in the area.

Arsenal are increasing the pressure at the moment, with Dundalk mainly in defensive mode.

Pepe’s cross deflects Cleary.

He then falls to Cédric Soares on the edge of the area, but ruins it well.

A look at that McEleney effort …

Interestingly, Michael Duffy has started out with a very central attacking role.

Dundalk will hope his pace can expose the gunners on the counter.

Unsurprisingly, Arsenal are dominating possession and territory from the start.

Yet as I write, McEleney has a shot from afar that Rúnarsson is forced to deflect for a corner.

“I read a very long interview because I wanted to know who he is, what he is trying to do and that is how I found out what happened,” Mikel Arteta said of Dundalk manager Filippo Giovagnoli before tonight’s game.

Hello and welcome to tonight’s live blog.

It is a great occasion for Dundalk, undoubtedly one of the most important games in its history.

They enter the game as significant losers and a loss would seriously damage their hopes of progress.

The Lilywhites have already lost their first home game to Molde, while Arsenal earned an opening win over Rapid Vienna.

Against all odds, they managed to score points in the group stage of this competition with Stephen Kenny, and they hope to repeat that feat tonight, after an indifferent domestic season that has seen them usurped as champions by Shamrock Rovers.
