Meanwhile, Southampton have slipped to eleventh after a losing streak of results.
Speaking to BT Sport (via BBC Sport) after the win, Arteta said: “I think we were good from the start. We received a corner goal but we responded immediately. We were good with the ball.
“We got out of trouble and made great opportunities. Our pressing was brilliant. We were good at halftime. It was a solid performance.
“It is difficult to win here. They are strong and have been in shape. He showed a lot of intelligence and endurance from the team in the way they managed the game.
“We still have a lot to do. We have to improve, be humble and train well for the next game ”.
When asked about Pepe’s performance, Arteta said: “I was really good again. It created great moments. He deserved his chance today and he took it. “
Bukayo Saka played a leading role in the victory, scoring one for himself and assisting Lacazette for the third goal. Speaking of Saka, Arteta continued: “She has been very consistent. He has played in different positions and has adapted. He is helping the players. Today was another good performance. “
The Gunners have turned their fortunes after a disappointing start to the season. Now they seem ready to fight for a European position.
They were helped by the young Saka and Emile Smith-Rowe, who rested for the FA Cup defeat.
The pair helped give them more creativity in midfield.
Arsenal’s next game is a big clash against Man Utd on Saturday at 17:30.
