Armed Gardai rushed to a student accommodation in Galway this afternoon after reports of someone with a weapon.
Local Gardai received a call about a firearm on property in the Upper Newcastle area and responded immediately.
Several Garda units, including armed Gardai, arrived at the accommodation and conducted searches.
After an extensive search, no weapons were found and the Gardai left the scene.
A garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí responded to a report of a possible firearm at a property in Upper Newcastle, Galway this afternoon, Friday 2 October 2020.
“The Armed Support Unit went to the scene and conducted an exhaustive search of the premises. The search was negative.”
