An Irish store owner who sold a € 5.3 million lottery jackpot ticket was stunned as he hints at who the winner might be.

The store that sold the winning € 5.3 million lottery ticket has been revealed as a family business on the outskirts of Kilkenny.

The gold ticket was sold at the DeLoughry’s Gala store at Talbot’s Inch in Marble City on the day of the drawing.

The National Lottery has also confirmed that it is still waiting to hear from the newly minted Lotto millionaire and has asked all players in the county to urgently check their tickets to see if they are the big winner.

Winning store owner John DeLoughry took over the management of the family business from his parents Jack and Anne in 2012 and they were spending time together when John got the call from the National Lottery to deliver the incredible news.

John said: “We are absolutely stunned. When you hear about a big lottery like this, you never think that you could be the one to sell the lucky ticket to change someone’s life.

“The store has been open since 1983, but we only started selling lottery tickets in 2016.

“That is a massive claim now, as we have sold a jackpot winning ticket just four years later. It will be a memorable day to be able to celebrate this victory with my mother and father who have been incredibly supportive of me and the business, it’s really magical for us and we’re not even the jackpot winners. “

Who won the jackpot?

Kilkenny is full of rumors as to who may have won the ticket and the shop owner suggests where the winner may have come from.

Locals in the area, as well as visitors to two nearby hospitals, are the likely source of the victory the merchant thinks of by admitting “it could be anyone.”

He added: “There is a huge buzz over the city of Kilkenny right now and it’s exactly the kind of good news everyone needs. Last week, there was a big EuroMillions win in the city (€ 116,116) which was followed by these € 5.4 million win, so we’re definitely on a roll.

This latest lottery win is the 10th jackpot win so far in 2020 with nearly € 50 million won in jackpot prizes alone.

The winning numbers of the lottery (Wednesday, September 23) are: 02, 05, 07, 29, 38, 42 and the bonus number is: 27.
