An impressive address, even for Donald Trump

We shouldn’t have been surprised, but it was still a shock.

In his evening address from the East Room of the White House, Donald Trump listed the states he had won as his supporters cheered.

He had every right to do so.

He had not been carried away by a ‘blue wave’ of support for Joe Biden as many had predicted. He had a good night, until he decided to address the nation.

Donald Trump claimed that there was fraud and that he would go to the Supreme Court to stop the vote.

There are two big problems with your plan. First, there is no voting, only counting, and second, the courts have already ruled that states like Pennsylvania have the right to count votes in the coming days.

The President of the United States has claimed for months, without evidence, that vote-by-mail ballots would lead to fraud and inaccuracies.

He has warned that delays in counting votes would result in cheating and has suggested that he cannot accept the result and challenge it in court.

When I talk to Donald Trump supporters, they tell me that they like the fact that he does what he says and keeps his promises. Your base will no doubt be happy that you are following through on your threat to take legal action.

However, other Republicans may not be so happy with some high-ranking party members expressing concern about the president’s stance.

I have been covering Donald Trump press conferences for three years. I’ve heard it from Russia’s side about its own intelligence agencies, I’ve seen it take protesters out of the White House so that it could pose photos, and now I’ve seen it threaten legal action to stop the vote count.

Donald Trump could still legitimately win the 2020 election and retain the White House for another four years. If you don’t, a long and uncertain road awaits you.
