The store that sold this week’s winning lottery ticket has been revealed.

The gold Quick Pick ticket that won the largest Lotto jackpot so far in 2020 was sold at the Spar store in Mount Oval Village in Rochestown, Co. Cork.

The store’s owner, Shane Cantillon, was delighted with the news that he had sold the 10.7 million euro note.

When answering the telephone of the National Lottery, Cantillon said: “Please tell me that you are calling to inform me that I sold the winning ticket.”

The popular Cork retailer runs the local spar with his brother Mark, father Greg, and 30 other local staff.

Cantillon said that working with her family and supporting her local community has made the announcement even more special.

“My phone was turned on last night and, to my surprise, the number of the National Lottery appeared. I knew the winning lottery ticket was won in Cork, so I knew there could only be one thing: I should have sold the winning ticket. Anyone who works in retail will tell you that selling a winning lottery ticket to one of your own customers is the best alternative to winning it yourself. Working with my entire family in the business makes this victory even more special.

“Entrepreneurship is all about being local, supporting local communities and local suppliers, and now one of our local clients is worth more than 10 million euros.

“2020 has been a difficult year for all of us, but knowing that someone in the area may be 10.7 million euros richer today is a big shock for us.

“We are just a couple of weeks away from Christmas so I hope it brings great hope, joy and happiness to them and their family for many, many years,” said the Cork store owner.

Cantillon said he had always promised his staff a celebration if they sold a big winning lottery ticket and wanted to thank them for their work after a difficult year.

“I am in a very fortunate position to have the most incredibly hard-working staff working for us. We have five stores in Cork and one in Carlow and I have always promised the staff a great night of celebration if we ever sold a jackpot winning ticket.

“Once the end of Covid is in sight, it will be a massive celebration party for all of our 250 employees, so I know it will give them something special to look forward to, once the restrictions are lifted, of course.”

This latest Lottery win is the 11th jackpot win this year, with more than € 60 million won in jackpot prizes alone.

In 2020, more than 130 million euros in prizes have been won in the Lotto game and it includes 18 new millionaires that have been created in the Lotto and Lotto Plus games.

The National Lottery also confirmed that no winner has yet to come forward and is reminding all players in Co Cork to check their tickets.
