Gordon Elliott has made no secret of his fondness for bringing his star performers to Down Royal and this season is no different with a host of his top contenders to the Cheltenham Festival making a comeback in the next two days.
However, a successful debut in the pursuit of undefeated Envoi Allen in the Advanced NI Scaffolding Beginners Chase of 2m3½f (3.00) should be at the top of Elliott’s Down Royal wish list.
The brilliant Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle hero will be looking for a 10th career victory in ten starts and has the help of Jack Kennedy for the first time as a backup to the injured Davy Russell.
“He was bought to go chasing and he’s very well educated,” Elliott said of the 5-2 antepost favorite for the Marsh Novices Chase.
“His record speaks for itself, but now he is stepping over the hurdles with a clean slate and we can’t wait to see how he does. This race has always been the plan.”
Envoi Allen is the jewel in the crown of Cheveley Park Racing Director Chris Richardson, who said: “Envoi Allen is one of those types of horses that everyone follows, especially in Ireland.
“He is a very special horse and we all saw the joy Ms. Thompson felt in winning a Grade 1 at the festival and guiding him in Cheltenham.”
Third Bumper Champion Queens Brook seemed in dire need of her season return at Fairyhouse as she made a hurdles debut and advanced in her class in Grade 3 Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares Novice Hurdle (1.15).
Elliott said: “We were looking forward to meeting her at Fairyhouse with this race in mind and she should improve a lot.”
Brave Way, trained by Henry from Bromhead, could be her main rival and the main coach said of her impressive Kilbeggan winner: “She was very good last time. We will have to see the drop in trip for her, but this seemed like a race fit for her “.

Lorna Fowler sends her exciting Thurles scorer Politesse into battle and said of the six-year-old: “She’s had a good summer and she’s definitely gotten bigger and stronger. She’s had a lot of work getting into shape and It’s a fiery race against the horses that have already raced this season, but we have to start somewhere. “
Declan Queally jnr added on the clever artist The Getaway Star, who makes her hurdles debut: “She is in great shape and Denis O’Regan has already trained her on hurdles. We are very happy with how she jumps.
