Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has been brought out of an induced coma after his alleged poisoning with the nerve agent novichok.

Russia denies poisoning Navalny

He added that the decision to publicly release the details of his condition was made in consultation with his wife, Yulia Navalnaya.

Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab tweeted: “Today the UK summoned the Russian ambassador to the UK to express its deep concern over the poisoning of Alexey Navalny.

“It is completely unacceptable that a prohibited chemical weapon was used and Russia must carry out a full and transparent investigation.

“Relieved to learn that Alexei Navalny has been brought out of a medically induced coma. I hope his condition continues to improve.”

Last week, German officials said tests showed Navalny he had been poisoned with novichok – the same nerve agent used in the Skripals at Salisbury, which was developed by the Soviet Union in the 1970s and 1980s.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said the use of the novichok showed that the “dangerous” attack on Navalny was an assassination attempt and that the aim was to silence him.
