Agriculture Minister Charlie McConalogue tested positive for Covid.

The shocking news about Christmas means that the entire Cabinet has officially entered the Covid lockdown.

They were ordered to restrict their movements for 14 days while the test results are done to see if the virus has spread to any of the other government ministers.

A full Cabinet meeting was held yesterday morning so there is a very realistic chance that other ministers will be infected as well as it lasted several hours.

Health Minister Stephen Donnelly had to restrict his movements earlier this year with a suspected Covid case, but ultimately tested negative.

This is the first time that a well-known minister has contracted the life-threatening bug.

It has not yet been revealed whether it is a case of the new mutant variant of the Covid strain that is spreading throughout the southeast of England.

A government spokesman said: “A Cabinet member tested positive for COVID-19.

“According to the public health councils, all the ministers are restricting their movements while they await a test and the result of COVID.”
