A Nintendo Direct in June begins to seem less and less likely

A few days ago, Jeff Grubb of Venture Beat said that a Nintendo Direct presentation would not happen in June at the time E3 2020 should have taken place.

The same report revealed how Nintendo was currently in the process of “telling associate developers” that it would not be holding a Direct next month, following the official cancellation of E3. If you were not completely convinced at the time, Eurogamer’s own sources have also been able to support this. A story on its website continues to mention how Nintendo won’t go ahead with a presentation because it “needs more development time” in the first-part releases:

Eurogamer understands [Nintendo] He has told the editors that they will reveal games during his presentation that he needs more development time on his first-part games. Nowadays, work stops while the famous and reserved company adapts to remotely working personnel.

According to the original Venture Beat report, Nintendo was hosting an event for June, where it planned to show its first party schedule for the rest of this year and reveal rumors from remasters of Super Mario’s 35th anniversary.

Jeff Grubb is the same person who said that two Nintendo submissions will air before the end of March this year, and they did (there was an Indie World Showcase followed by a Nintendo Direct Mini). More recently, he backed rumors about Super Mario’s 35th anniversary remasters with his own sources, adding that there would be a new Paper Mario game that re-forms the series.

Nintendo has not made an official statement on whether or not a Direct will continue next month, or whether there will even be one, but has previously stated that it “will continue to be flexible and redirect [its] efforts “to keep fans updated, after this year’s E3 cancellation.
