Gardai has opened a criminal investigation into the death of a man in a suburb of Cork early Saturday morning.

The 20-year-old man was found outside a home in Eagle Valley around 1.10 a.m. after officers received reports that someone was lying unconscious.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and took him to CUH, where he was later pronounced dead.

Gardai was initially treating the death as “inexplicable” and was exploring all possibilities.

After an autopsy, the case has turned into a criminal investigation.

A Garda spokesperson said: “The Gardaí has ​​launched a criminal investigation into the death of a man in unexplained circumstances in Cork City. The incident occurred in the early hours of this morning, Saturday 29 August 2020.”

“Gardaí and Emergency Services were called to the scene at approximately 1.10 am following reports of an unconscious man at a residence in Eagle Valley, Wilton, Cork City.

“The man, in his 20s, was taken to Cork University Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. An autopsy has since been performed on the man’s body, the results of which will not be released for operational purposes.

“The criminal investigation into this matter is ongoing.

“An incident room has been established at Togher Garda Station. Anyone with information in relation to this matter is requested to contact Togher Garda Station on 021 494 7120.”
