A man in Co Fermanagh was fined £ 1,000 for violating quarantine restrictions upon returning from a holiday in Spain.
The sanction is understood to have been issued after the man went out to socialize in Enniskillen at the weekend.
The man, who later tested positive for Covid-19, was supposed to isolate himself after recently returning from Spain’s Balearic Islands.
People returning from countries that are not on Northern Ireland’s green list for safe travel, such as Spain, must be quarantined for two weeks.
Deputy Police Chief Alan Todd confirmed that the PSNI had issued the fine for non-compliance with travel regulations.
He clarified that the management of quaratine regulations “is a matter for the UK Border Force and its associated partners.”
He said: “The role of the police is to respond to reports from the UK Border Force or any of its associated partners about possible infractions, but the police will also act on any significant concerns raised by members of the public.”
“A fine of £ 1,000 was issued (Tuesday 1 September) for non-compliance with the International Travel Regulations.”
He stressed that the role of the PSNI remained “to engage, explain, encourage and, only when necessary, enforce.”

Last month, a woman from Northern Ireland was jailed on the Isle of Man for breaking quarantine rules.
Fraser Nolan received permission to visit the Isle of Man to care for his late mother’s property.
She admitted taking a bus to visit a locksmith in Douglas on August 18 after arriving from Northern Ireland.
Under Covid-19 rules, non-residents authorized to travel to the island must remain in quarantine for 14 days.
The 60-year-old man, from Osborne Drive in Belfast, was jailed for four weeks.
She was reported to the police through an anonymous notice, the Douglas Courthouse heard.
