Irish family ‘devastated’ after tumble dryer catches fire and destroys home

A mother and her son have become homeless after their tumble dryer caught fire destroying everything they own.

On Saturday morning, Sharon Brown, from the noticed smoke coming from her kitchen, and in a matter of minutes, she and her son saw how their belongings were destroyed in the fire.

Andrea, the daughter-in-law of South Belfast’s mother Sharon, said Sharon moved in with her daughter and only kept her clothes on.

“On Saturday morning, around 10 a.m., my husband George received a phone call from his dad to say that his mother’s house was on fire,” she told Belfast Live.

“And then he called his mother and she was standing outside the house with her son, just watching the flames take over the house and it all started from the dryer. They are currently at Sharon’s daughter’s house, but she feels she is being a burden to everyone and trying to be resolved.

“But right now it’s difficult, she has three dogs, which makes things more difficult. Her dogs are also her babies so she doesn’t part with them. Fortunately, they were both fine, and the dogs are fine, too. complete shock and devastated. They saw how everything burned. “

Sharon, 53, discovered Thursday that she has a tumor behind her right eye, which is why Andrea says she was stressed before the fire.

And Andrea also thanked the community for being so kind to donate to a Go Fund Me link, which was created to help Sharon and her son.

“People have already been so generous, in a few hours people have really been great and have tried to help as much as possible,” said Andrea.

“I went to the house yesterday and it made me feel bad to think it could have had a worse outcome. We are so grateful that no one was hurt, but it is so devastating. I think when things like this happen, you will be in shock, because you never think what’s going to happen to you.

“I remember reading about another family that had the same thing happen to them, and I actually donated money to their Just Giving page because I remember thinking how horrible it must be. And now it’s happened to our family, it’s really shocking. The positive side of everything is that my mother-in-law and my brother-in-law are safe and that they are here with us.

“On Thursday, Sharon was told she had a tumor behind her right eye, so she was stressed as is. We want to try to get her back in as soon as possible, so I set up the Go Fund page to contact me.” for help since she does not have home insurance.
