Kathryn Thomas admits she was disappointed by the initial reaction to the RTE Keeping Well Apart Operation Transformation spin-off program.
The television presenter said the spirit of the show has always been to help others and that she was surprised by the protest for its original name, “Operation Covid Nation.”
People criticized the producers for being insensitive during the coronavirus crisis, and while the popular presenter said she understands viewers were really confused about the show’s concept, she added that it was difficult to take at the time.
She said: “I was disappointed that people thought we would really have gone out to offend someone, that was difficult.

“Operation Transformation is about helping people and we come from a good place, so for me it was personally difficult.
“Once what we were trying to do was explained, it was good, it had nothing to do with weight loss, which we are associated with.

But while the mother of one said it was a very emotional time to cancel their camps and temporarily let the staff go, she is also trying to be pragmatic about things.
She said, “Money is one thing, people lose money in business, but that’s how you get out of it, it’s how you readjust and look to the future, no one could have predicted this and, to be honest, people are losing lives and that’s the difference, that’s where the real concern is.
“I am very lucky that my family has their health, there are families that cannot even say goodbye to their loved ones who have died and that bothers me and excites me, it surprises me a lot.
“I think older people will be buried without seeing people in four or five weeks, that’s something to be upset about. The only thing that matters is your health, when you experience a pandemic. Your health is your happiness.
