Tim Sherwood has opened up to the advice he received from Sir Alex Ferguson after taking over Tottenham.

The Premier League title winner replaced Andre Villas-Boas at the helm in 2013, but gave way to Mauricio Pochettino five months later despite an impressive season in charge.

Sherwood has recalled a conversation he had with Manchester United legend Fergie after he launched.

The 51-year-old man told the Daily Mail: “I spoke to him. He told me: ‘You play two games a week as a coach: one is the press conference and the other is a soccer game. Sometimes it is just as important win the conference since it’s the game. ‘

“He was right. But I didn’t understand that.”

Sherwood left despite having a 59.1 percent win rate, the best of any Spurs boss in Premier League history.

However, he insists that he still remains on good terms with Tottenham boss Daniel Levy, and claims he knew his hot seat spell was only temporary.

He added: “I knew I was holding the fort before Pochettino entered.”

“I also knew that there was no point in replacing Andre Villas-Boas and not changing anything.

“He was fired for a reason. They weren’t winning enough soccer games, scoring enough goals or playing freely enough.”

“So I looked at the players. Emmanuel Adebayor, for example, was being isolated, training with me and with the children.”

“I always made sure he had the right attitude, otherwise I wouldn’t have had him there with the boys anyway. I brought him back and we made more than we lost.”
