McDonald’s has said it will reopen its first UK restaurants for delivery on May 13 after closing all its sites in Ireland and the UK due to the coronavirus blockade.
He said he will reopen 15 restaurants in the UK for delivery only, and that the location of these restaurants will be announced next week.
The fast food chain has spent this week testing its closed-door operations in preparation.
McDonalds decided in March to temporarily close its Irish and British restaurants for the safety of its employees and customers, but recently began working through limited and potential reopens.
He said his outlets, when they reopen, will have much smaller teams and as a result he will return with a limited menu. He said this will support social distancing in their kitchens.
To further reduce the complexities of your kitchens by changing the menu, you will also temporarily stop serving breakfast.
To keep its staff safe, McDonalds said it will introduce the use of perspex screens and that floor markings will be introduced in specific areas.
It also plans to provide additional protective equipment, including non-medical grade face masks, and will use non-contact thermometers with staff temperatures taken on arrival at work for each shift.
The fast-food chain also said it will introduce social distancing measures for all its delivery and service partners.
“When we return, it will be different as we all adapt to this new normal,” said Paul Pomroy, CEO of McDonald’s UK and Ireland.
“Slowly, but surely, we will return to towns and cities across the UK and Ireland and we will appreciate your continued support as we work through this crisis,” he added.
