German MP dies in Limerick after flight made emergency stop in Shannon

A WOMAN HAS died in a hospital in Ireland after the transatlantic flight she was traveling on was diverted to Shannon Airport early yesterday morning.

The German media outlet Bild named the woman as Karin Strenz, a member of the German federal parliament.

He was traveling on a flight from Cuba to Germany when he suddenly fell ill. It is known that at that time she was traveling with her husband.

Condor flight DE-199 was en route from Varadero in Cuba to Frankfurt, Germany when the crew declared a medical emergency while the flight was still west of Ireland.

The crew reported that they had a passenger on board who had become ill.

They requested authorization to divert to Shannon Airport and requested that emergency medical services be prepared for their arrival.

The woman is understood to have suffered a possible ‘heart incident’.

The Boeing 767-300 aircraft landed safely in Shannon at 7.36 am and was greeted at the terminal by airport personnel, paramedics from the National Ambulance Service and Gardaí.

Strenz was treated at the airport before being taken by ambulance to Limerick University Hospital, where she later died.

A post-mortem examination is expected to take place while a forensic investigation will take place at a later date.

The flight later continued to Frankfurt.
