Bettor Paul Dean will raise at least £ 250,000 on Thursday after opting to partially withdraw his remarkable £ 5 accumulator.

The 40-year-old had a choice to either let the bet run and rely on odds favorite Envoi Allen to win £ 511,225 in the Marsh Rookie Hunt or accept Betfair’s withdrawal offer of £ 275,000.

“After last night’s celebrations, four hours of sleep, and a one-hour walk at 5 am, I decided to accept a partial cash withdrawal offer,” Dean said.

“I was never going to accept a proper cash withdrawal. The reason I made the bet was to cheer on Envoi Allen, who I want to win so much from. I discussed partial withdrawals with Barry. [Orr, Betfair head of PR]. Betfair offered £ 300,000 for Envoi Allen and £ 250,000 for the field.

“With other bets, I’ll win £ 322,000 if Envoi wins so I can cheer him on. I didn’t want to get bored watching the action. People think I’m crazy for saying that, but horse racing is my life.

“It’s not so much the races that make me nervous, it’s the months leading up to the festival when my selections were shortened. You’ve seen how many drop out and you just hope yours doesn’t get injured.”

Dean of Stockton-on-Tees has not yet decided how he will spend the money, but has considered a few options, adding: “It’s a life-changing sum. I could buy another home or maybe invest in my own horse. I will go many vacations and I would like to take my parents with me. “

Dean kept the five-time bet when the sport returned in June and took a wheel when Golden Horde (12-1) and Hello Youmzain (10-1) won the Commonwealth Cup and Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot.

He then saw Shishkin, whom he had backed at 4-1, win the Arkle and Bob Olinger, whom he had at 25-1, gallop at home at the Ballymore.

His selections were far from being stabbed in the dark, with Dean adding: “I study form all the time and the festival is my big goal every year. I always try to get a big one and I liked the couple at Royal Ascot.

“I’m heartbroken that I can’t be there as it’s the first festival my father Eric and I have missed in 19 years; we’ve made a lot of friends.”

Barry Orr said: “At Paul’s request, we made him a partial cash withdrawal offer, reflecting his wish that a portion of his incredible bet still be placed on Envoi Allen, while ensuring him a substantial profit. Encourage I send Allen home with enthusiasm. “
