HSE advises GPs on vaccine limits for the 75-79 age group

The Health Service Executive has told GPs that first dose assignments for patients in the 75-79 age group will be limited next week.

GPs got the news through a new newsletter.

The HSE said the decision to limit “dose one allocation” to the 75-79 age group was made “to maintain the equitable nature of the vaccination program.”

You want to make sure that as many people in the older age groups as possible are vaccinated first.

The newsletter reads: “The two key priorities for the distribution of vaccine supplies available next week (as of March 15) are:
a) complete the first dose vaccines for those patients in category 80 to 84 and
b) Administer second doses to corresponding patients older than 85 years.

The HSE said the new limitations will affect 100 of the 500 GP practices that expect vaccine deliveries next week.

So far, more than 1,300 GPs representing more than 3,000 individual physicians have received and administered more than 100,000 doses of vaccines to older citizens.

Next week, HSE will deliver another 33,500 first-dose vaccines to 500 GP’s offices to be administered to people in the community between the ages of 80 and 84.

It will also provide second dose vaccines for people 85 and older.

The HSE is also changing its process to confirm the number of vaccines that will be delivered to each GP.

Their new system means GPs will no longer have to fill out vaccine order forms and submit them online.

Instead, the number of vaccines to be administered will be automatically calculated based on the number of patients registered at each GP office in the Primary Care Return Service (PCRS).

The bottom-up adjustments, to serve private patients, will be managed on an individual basis by the vaccine relationship managers assigned to each GP practice in the last week.

The HSE bulletin also warned that “recent deliveries of Moderna have been less than the forecast quantity. Our ability to provide Moderna vaccine to GP practices has obviously been affected by this.”

“In the short term, we are only in a position to deliver doses two at the doses already committed.”
