GARDAÍ HAS LAUNCHED an investigation after a man’s body was discovered in Cork City tonight.
The body of the man, believed to be in his 50s, was discovered in the Carey’s Lane area around 7 p.m.
A passerby raised the alarm and Gardaí and emergency services arrived at the scene within minutes.
The man was announced dead at the scene.
Gardaí has requested the services of the State Pathologist’s Office. Alternate state
Pathologist Dr. Margaret Bolster will perform a post-mortem examination at Cork University Hospital (CUH) tomorrow.
The status of the investigation will be determined by the results of the post-mortem examination. Currently, death is considered inexplicable.
The Gardaí has asked anyone who witnessed anything unusual near Carey’s Lane or Patrick Street on Tuesday night to contact them.
Officers will also examine CCTV security camera footage throughout the city center as part of their investigation.
