X Factor host Dermot O’Leary told Ryan Tubridy on Friday’s Late Late Show that “Nothing really prepares you” for parenthood, and how he accepted that he might not be able to become a father.

In an extensive interview, the TV host spoke about his and his wife Dee’s doubts as they sought to conceive, as well as their joy at becoming a father last June.

“Nothing really prepares you for that,” he admitted when talking about the experience of becoming a dad. “We tried for a while and there is a part of you … you know you accept the fact that you may not be a parent.

“Then you think, ‘Well wait a second,’ you look at society and how weighted it is to people and the value to people who have children.

“I think it’s very important to remember that some people choose not to or can’t and are still really valued members of society. You get over how special you are pretty quickly.”

He also joked about the sleepless nights that are part of the early days and months of parenthood.

“I remember waking up in the middle of the first night he woke up at two or three for his feeding and the first thing I did was look at him and the second thing I did was Google ‘when do you sleep’?”

Dermot also offered her take on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s upcoming television interview with Oprah Winfrey, which will air here in Ireland on Monday on RTÉ2.

Since he’s a celebrity himself, but someone who keeps his private life closely, he has some insight into his relationship to the whole celebrity thing.

“You can argue ‘they should have made this decision or they should have made that decision,'” he told Ryan.

“When he said ‘I’m making this decision with my wife for the mental health of my family,’ that ended the sentence for me, if he needs that to get away from the toxicity of the world, to live in…

“They never said they wanted to become anonymous, they just said they no longer wanted to follow those rules.

“I hate myself for that, but I’m intrigued as to how it will play out, so I’ll be watching. Let’s not forget that on both sides … they’re human, they’re going to show fragility.”

O’Learly also reflected on the former Island of love the death of presenter Caroline Flack, just over a year after her tragic final days when she was at the center of a media storm. He had known her for quite some time.

“My wife knew Caroline around the same time as me, but Dee and I weren’t together then, she worked with her,” he recalled.

“Caroline and I had the same agent, so I’ve known Caroline for 20 years, we both have. She passed away sadly and then we had her funeral and then we had the confinement ….

“She was a friend and you feel like … I read something about this the other day … Dave Grohl was saying when Kurt Cobain passed away that everything was’ the first ‘after his passing …’ the first cup of coffee I made after his death ‘… the first time he picked up a guitar.

“I don’t think Caroline’s group of friends have had that yet because nothing has happened, we’ve had a year of being locked up.

“No one has ever experienced the first time we’re in Glastonbury and she’s not there. No one has ever experienced the TV shows that she used to be on, no one has ever experienced the things we used to watch her on and I think that’s when she really hit it. nail “.
