Dog rescued after falling 100 feet from the edge of a cliff at Howth Head

A DOG HAS been rescued after falling 100 feet from the edge of a cliff at Howth Head in Dublin.

The Irish Coast Guard emergency operations center received a call to 999 reporting the incident this afternoon. It was also reported that a member of the public was attempting to access the location.

The Howth-based Irish Coast Guard cliff rescue team was tasked and quickly located the incident near Casana Rock.

The dog had been distracted by wildlife on the cliff trail while walking with its owners and then fell 100% down the steep cliff onto the rocks below.

A team of 12 people lowered a rescue climber to the site who took the dog, named Jacko, to safety.

The dog was reunited with his owners and taken to the vet where he recovers with a broken pelvis.

“We are grateful that the owners stayed on track and called for help immediately,” the Irish Coast Guard said.
