BREAKING: Limerick’s Daily Covid-19 Case Numbers Make County Second Highest in Country

As of midnight on Saturday, February 20, the HPSC has been notified of 679 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Of the new cases tonight, Limerick, with 59, ranks second after Dublin in number of cases, 11 ahead of Galway. There are now a total of 215,057 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ireland. The 5-day moving average (through midnight February 20, 2021) for Limerick is now 44, while the 14-day incidence rate per 100,000 population (February 7, 2021 to February 20, 2021) is of 258.1

Of the cases reported today:

335 are men / 342 are women
71% are under 45 years old
The average age is 32 years.
230 in Dublin, 59 in Limerick, 48 in Galway, 47 in Kildare, 29 in Tipperary and the remaining 266 cases are spread over 19 other counties. *

As of 8 a.m. today, 744 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 148 are in the ICU. 45 additional hospitalizations in the last 24 hours.

The Center for Health Protection Surveillance has been notified today of 1 additional death related to COVID-19.

There have been a total of 4,136 COVID-19 related deaths in Ireland.

As of February 18, 326,475 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine had been administered in Ireland:

120,520 people have received their second dose

Dr. Ronan Glynn, deputy chief medical officer for the Department of Health, said; “While the level of disease in our communities remains very high, we are still making progress.

“We have reported fewer than 1,000 cases per day this week and our 7-day average has dropped from 1,022 two weeks ago, to 862 last week, to 792 today. The number of people hospitalized has fallen from more than 1,200 two weeks ago to 744 today.

“Don’t underestimate the power of your actions, as we seek to protect the achievements we have made and further reduce transmission. This week, continue to work from home unless essential and do not visit other homes unless for essential reasons or as part of a bubble of support. “
