Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has insisted that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has led the club forward since replacing José Mourinho as the club’s manager.
Ourinho criticized Rashford’s skill during his time as United manager, and the forward has taken his game to a new level since Solskjaer replaced him in December 2018.
United have yet to win a trophy under the direction of their Norwegian coach and their challenge for the Premier League title appears to have ended for another season after falling ten points behind runaway leader Manchester City.
Solskjaer needs to deliver cutlery to cushion criticism that has never been far behind, but Rashford suggests that the brand of football United are playing now is evidence that they have made some steps forward.
“I think we’ve definitely made progress, if we look back at the team when Ole first took over as coach and how we were giving up,” Rashford told United’s website.
“Even when we were winning matches back then (with Mourinho), it was probably not the way we all wanted to win the match.
“We have made great strides forward, but the message remains the same. We still have many steps to take in the right direction.
“Everyone is concentrating on that and ultimately we want to start winning big trophies and big games, more than we have done.”
United will face Newcastle in the Premier League on Sunday, with Rashford insisting that relegation fighters will offer a tough test at Old Trafford.
“There are no weak teams in the Premier League,” he added.
“There are teams that go through moments, like everyone else, in which they go down in shape or are not getting results but they are playing good football.
“I just learned that, in this league, you never expect an easy ride or an easy game.
“You have to prepare as best you can and be as focused as you can for each game.”
