Thai take-out chain Camile Thai has announced that it will create 220 new jobs in Ireland this year.
The company, which is opening 15 new outlets, will also create 80 more stalls in the UK.
The chain says the expansion has been fueled by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Despite an extremely difficult year for the hospitality industry, Camile 2020 has seen rapid growth,” said founder Brody Sweeney.
“Our delivery-centric suburban model has proven to be pandemic-proof over the past eleven months, especially in terms of revenue and sales.”
“This has allowed us not only to go ahead with our aggressive expansion plans, but also to advance prematurely with our main objective: our technology pivot.”
The new positions will be in retail, business development, marketing, sales and cooking.
New locations in Ireland include The Point Village in Dublin, the new Frascati Center in Blackrock, as well as other locations in Waterford, Mayo, Dublin and Cork.
Camile Thai currently has 35 outlets in the two countries.
The firm, created in 2010 by Sweeney, also aims to raise 10 million euros to invest in technology.
Among the technology-driven innovations it is currently engaged in are robotics-based kitchen automation and drone-based delivery.
Sweeney said the firm sees technology playing an increasing role in food preparation, user experience and delivery.
The company is also expanding its flexible franchise options for businesses that have commercial kitchens that are not fully utilized in cities in the region.
The first of these “franchise as a service” establishments recently opened in Sligo.
The concept aims to help restaurants, bars and hotels that are unable to open for in-house dining due to Covid-19 restrictions to quickly start offering their menu.
Camile Thai plans to open up to six more in the medium term.
