Model Katie Price has spoken out against online bullying directed at her teenage son Harvey.
Peaking on The Late Late Show tonight, Price said her son receives a lot of abuse on the internet, although he is thankfully unaware of most of it.
“The most vulnerable and sweet thing is that Harvey has no idea about all this,” he said. “When we go to stores and people ask for a photo … He has no idea, he just likes the camera flash.”
He added that “he has a lot of trolls” and “the thing is with Harvey, he is also trolled a lot and, fortunately, he doesn’t understand it, but I do.”
Host Ryan Tubridy said, “Shame on people” trolling Harvey.
“What you are doing to highlight the case of people with special needs and their families and their extended families, and the campaign against trolling, it is just wonderful what you are doing Katie, congratulations to you.”
Harvey, who is now 18, has several disabilities.
“Harvey was born blind, and I found out when he was six weeks old,” Price said. “Then I found out he had autism, then he had ADHD, opposite deficit disorder, and he has Prader-Willis.”
And people really don’t know what that is. It’s when you think you’re hungry all the time, so you just want to eat. And obviously he’s hungry all the time, so it affects his behavior. “
On top of all that, Harvey also suffers from tic and septo-optic dysplasia, which makes optic nerve development unpredictable.
“He’s on medication for life,” Price said. “It’s complex, but I love it in pieces.”
“I wouldn’t change him, and I don’t treat him any differently than any of my other kids. I try to be as normalized as possible. “
Price also talked about how difficult it is to find nice clothes for Harvey because of his size.
“She is 6’2” and 29 stone, and wears 7XL clothes, “he said.” It is impossible to find clothes on the street that fit well. And since she is young I try to find fashionable clothes for her, but I can’t. “
She is trying to help him lose weight, but unfortunately it is being difficult due to Prader-Willi syndrome.
“It’s because of his condition, not because he eats a lot,” Price said.
On a final note, Price also noted that he is trying to get Harvey into a college that can meet his needs.
“When you adjust to what Harvey has, there were only about three or four colleges that could take care of Harvey, and unfortunately he was a long way from home.”
“When college is far away, I have to tell myself it’s not forever and this is for him to transition into an adult, give him independent skills. This is what you deserve. “
