An investigation is underway after the bodies of a man and a woman, believed to be 40 years old, were found last night at a home in Co Cavan.

They have been named locally as Rolandas Jarmalvicius and Rita Martinkiene.

The bodies were found in the house in Cloverhill, near Belturbet, after Gardaí was called to the scene around 8 p.m.

The house is located in an alley in a remote area near Cloverhill on the main Cavan to Clones Road.

It is understood that the couple, who are originally from Lithuania, had been living in the area for several years.

The couple had not been seen for several days and a relative raised the alarm.

The area has been sealed off and the State Pathologist’s Office has been notified.

Post-mortem examinations of the bodies are expected today and Gardaí says they are treating the deaths as unexplained.

One line of investigation is that accidental poisoning may have been a cause or contributor to the deaths.

Neighbors this morning spoke of a “working couple”, both of whom are believed to have jobs at Co Fermanagh.
