Met Eireann has identified the areas where snow will fall in the coming days when a cold snap hits Ireland.

Dangerous and “dangerous” conditions are expected to arrive, especially Thursday when “rain, sleet and snow spread northeast across the country.”

There is a yellow snow and ice status warning for Antrim, Armagh, Down, Tyrone from 5pm on Monday to 11am on Tuesday.

And a second yellow alert is in effect for Antrim, Armagh, from 4pm Tuesday to 11am Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the first snowfalls are expected today in eastern Ulster and northern Leinster.

A forecaster from Met Eireann said: “It is very cold and windy today. Scattered showers of sleet and snow will move over the eastern half of the country, mainly affecting eastern Ulster and northern Leinster, with mostly dry conditions and sunny spells in Other locations Higher temperatures of only 1 to 4 degrees with an additional wind chill factor in mostly cool easterly winds.

And it will remain cold as of Wednesday with lows of -3C and snow falling in many areas on Thursday.

As we approach the weekend, weather experts said there is some “uncertainty” in the forecast for Friday, while it is expected to be “less cold” on Saturday and Sunday.

One forecaster added: “Wednesday will be another cold but fairly bright day. It will remain dry in many areas, but scattered winter rains will continue to affect northern Leinster and eastern Ulster.
