If Liverpool don’t ‘park the bus’, City could ‘hide’

Liverpool is in danger of “hiding” from Manchester City unless they “park the bus” on Sunday, according to Paul Merson.

The Reds are currently seven points behind Premier League leaders City, who also have a game in hand, ahead of his match against Pep Guardiola’s men over the weekend.

Liverpool have lost consecutive home games against Burnley and Brighton and they have to get back in shape at Anfield against City if they are to keep their title hopes alive.

After watching the Reds’ recent performances, Merson acknowledges that Jurgen Klopp’s team could be forced to play deep and hit City on the fast break.

Merson wrote in his Daily star column: “Liverpool may have to park the bus against Manchester City, and now they are in danger of missing out on the top four.

“The fear factor is really gone and they just lost at home to Brighton and Burnley.

“I’m not sure about Liverpool right now. They are in trouble. They start to become a team that has to be a complete hide to win football games.

“The last few years they have managed to win sometimes without playing well. But if they play bad now they lose.

“If they beat City in some way this weekend, they could get back in the race for the title. It’s so tight up there. But will they?

“I think we could see Liverpool park the bus and play on the fast break. If they don’t, they could end up hiding from the City.

“Liverpool are 100% in danger of missing out on the top four on their way, and City is flying.

“Liverpool have to be careful now. They are losing games that you don’t expect, and the teams around them are winning.

“Jurgen Klopp recently said that the goal was to be in the top four, but with his form at home right now, with no fans inside Anfield, there is a real danger that they will miss out.

“You have to remember what an achievement it is for Liverpool to be there with all these injuries.”
