A fiercely divided House ousted US politician Marjorie Taylor Greene from both of her committees in an unprecedented punishment Democrats said she earned by spreading hateful and violent conspiracy theories.
To underscore the political vice in which the inflammatory comment by the newly elected Georgia Republican has held her party down, nearly all Republicans voted against the Democratic measure, but none defended their long history of scandalous social media posts.
Eleven Republicans joined 219 Democrats in supporting the removal of Mrs. Greene from their committees, while 199 Republican lawmakers voted “no.”
Voting close to the House party line was the latest example of conspiracy theories turning into political battlegrounds, an increasingly familiar fact during Donald Trump’s presidency.
He faces a Senate trial next week for his impeachment in the House for inciting insurrection after a mob that fueled his false narrative of a stolen election attacked the Capitol.
Thursday’s fight also underscored the uproar and political complexities that Ms. Greene, a master of provoking Democrats, promoting herself and raising funds for the campaign, has sparked since she became a candidate for the House last year.

Addressing her colleagues, Ms. Greene tried to dissociate herself from her “words from the past” on Thursday.
Contradicting past posts on social media, he said he believes the 9/11 attacks and mass school shootings were real and no longer believes QAnon’s conspiracy theories, which include lies about pedophile networks run by Democrats.
But he did not explicitly apologize for the supportive online comments he made on other issues, such as when he reflected on the assassination of Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi or the possibility that Jewish-controlled space lightning could cause wildfires. .
