Fine Gael falls in popularity but remains the leading party in opinion poll

FINE GAEL’S POPULARITY has dropped this week, but the party continues in the main preferences, according to the latest Business Post / Red C opinion poll.

Support for the party is 29%, slightly above Sinn Féin, which according to the poll is 27%.

Fine Gael has dropped four percentage points since the previous poll and Sinn Féin has dropped three.

Fianna Fáil’s support has risen by four points, but she is the least popular choice of the three parties at 16%.

The Green Party remains stable at 5%, with the Social Democrats moving up one point to meet it with the same popularity.

Labor, Solidaridad-PBP and Aontú remain unchanged since the last survey at 3%, 3% and 2% respectively.

Independent candidates attracted 10% of the first preferences, an increase of two percentage points.

14% of voters are undecided.

The survey was conducted of 1,000 adults between January 21 and 28.

The participants were asked which party or independent candidate they would give their first preferred vote to. There were general elections the next day.

When asked about their attitudes towards Covid-19 vaccines, 85% said they would take new and current vaccines if they are shown to be safe and effective.

70% believe that pubs and restaurants should not reopen until the majority of the population has been vaccinated. 86% support a 14-day quarantine in a hotel for people arriving in Ireland on their own.

Almost half (46%) feel that the government is doing a good job of implementing vaccines as quickly as possible. 47% did not agree and 7% said they did not know.

56% agree that schools should reopen in February if cases continue to decline at the current rate.
