Vicky has previously opened up about her grief while saying goodbye to children Amelia and Darragh.
She had been using an experimental drug called Pembro to help fight her cancer, but it stopped working and her cancer began to spread.
The new trial includes three drugs that can have devastating side effects, including skin cancer and flu-like symptoms.
Vicky told Ryan Tubridy on the Late Late Show that her condition has worsened since her scans in Ireland and that she is grateful to start treatment.
DETERIORATING
She said: “I had a scan since I got here and the scan showed that things had deteriorated since my last home scan in September.
“In addition to these three tumors that I already have and that had grown, now they have doubled in size and I have two new tumors on my shoulder blade.
“I’m glad I made the move because things are starting to deteriorate and will continue to deteriorate.
“So at the same time, although I was quite eager to get started, I was eager to start attacking these tumors that are now growing.
“I have eleven tumors which is quite a lot.”
LETTER PLAYING
Vicky said she reached the “breaking point” when her son Darragh gave her a touching letter before he left for the United States that “left her crying.”
She said: “It wasn’t breaking me even though I could feel it bubbling very close to the surface and then Darragh came down with a little letter that he wrote me, a little note with a picture on the front, but it was the words inside.
“When I read it that was it, I just broke down, I couldn’t do it anymore.
“I just got mad and I was crying and he was hugging me, I was hugging him, it was just beautiful.”
Ryan read the heartbreaking letter aloud after Vicky said she was “very proud” of her son.
It said: “You are strong Mom and you always face your fears to save people’s lives, so I try to stay as strong as I can with my kisses and hugs and you will be with me every day because we all love you, Darragh, Dad and Amelia you they want a lot.
“I’ll see you every day and I’ll always be with you. See you in March, love Darragh.”
DAILY ROUTINE
Vicky said she felt “very, very good” and that she was adjusting to her new life in America.
She told Ryan: “Now I have a routine at this stage and I think I like to have a routine, I am one of those people.
“I have a fabulous apartment building and there is an amazing coffee machine downstairs in the lobby.
“It’s really classy. I’m in heaven here it’s fabulous. With my big cup of coffee to go, under my pajamas, nobody cares here, I go downstairs, have my coffee, take it to my apartment and have a good time. leisurely breakfast.
“First thing in the morning when I get up, it’s afternoon for you, so I call my kids. That’s the first thing I do.”
The survivor said she was never more “inundated” with messages of “pure love” from the Irish during her treatment.
He also revealed that the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, was visiting the Maryland hospital where she is located for treatment on her first day.
