Dustin Poirier has beaten Conor McGregor after a brutal barrage of knockout punches in the second round of their UFC 257 clash in Abu Dhabi.

The Diamond got the job done after a precision assault on McGregor’s right calf, with a steady stream of kicks disabling the Dubliner before Poirier accelerated.

And McGregor, clearly uncomfortable, was unable to respond when Poirier’s large left hand signaled the beginning of the end.

What followed was a series of clean shots as a reeling McGregor struggled to react, before a final right hand knocked down the 32-year-old and left referee Herb Dean with no choice but to stop the fight.

The Lafayette, Louisiana native celebrated and teased a potential trilogy fight after the fact, while McGregor accepted defeat.

However, he said he would be back in 2021, so maybe another round with Poirier is at stake soon.

In any case, tonight belonged to the American fighter, who finally laid the foundation for his early victory.

After both men put in some work against the fence, with McGregor once again showing off the shoulder punches that were so effective against Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, the second half of the first round turned into a jab battle of McGregor vs. Poirier’s kick to the calf.

And while The Notorious was able to land a few clean shots in a heavy hitting finish in the first five minutes, it was Poirier’s kicks that did the most damage.

Crumlin’s man was soon limping and would ultimately begin to lose the battle when his leg failed him, leading him to the goal.

A deserved victory for Dustin Poirier, but he returns to the drawing board for Conor McGregor.
