MK Dons is resigned to losing defender Richard Keogh as they prepare to host Fleetwood at Sky Bet League One.
The Republic of Ireland international missed Saturday’s defeat at Peterborough amid reported interest from Huddersfield and appears to have made his final appearance with the club.
Keogh arrived at MK Stadium last summer after his Derby career ended in ignominious circumstances in October 2019.
The central midfielder terminated his contract with the Rams after he was involved in a car accident that resulted in his former teammates Tom Lawrence and Mason Bennett being convicted of driving under the influence.
Keogh suffered a serious knee injury during the incident and was fired for serious misconduct.
Before the imminent move, MK Dons manager Russell Martin told the club’s website: “A championship club came in for Richard, which was unexpected for both us and Richard. We have agreed to a deal with them. and it’s up to him to go and settle things on his end now.
“I have nothing but good things to say about Richard. I love him as a man and he has been great for us. He did not seek this move, but wanted to take this opportunity, so he expressed his wish to leave. Humans.
“He’s come back from a long time away and from a really tough place mentally, and he worked really hard.”
The transfer will mark a spike in Keogh’s career path, with Huddersfield currently ranked 14th in the Championship, while the Dons are 16th in League One.
While an Irish defender leaves the club, another has arrived permanently, and former Bohemian player Warren O’Hora agreed to a permanent move from Brighton and Hove Albion after a successful loan.
