FIRE SERVICE TEAMS are still active at the site of a fire that broke out in the port of Cork yesterday morning, and two additional crews joined the operation today.
Teams from Crosshaven and Carrigaline joined teams from Midleton and Cobh Fire Station to handle the aftermath of the fire.
The teams have been “exposing, wetting and extinguishing any hot spots within the storage facility,” according to the Cork County Council.
“This natural and organic pet food will continue to burn until it is removed from its current position.”
The fire broke out yesterday morning at R and H Hall in Ringaskiddy, where fire crews were called in to handle the blaze.
The Cork County Council said tonight that it can “confirm that crews will remain at the scene overnight.”
In a statement earlier today, the council said a team from the Kinsale fire station was at the scene overnight.
“The Carrigaline and Crosshaven crews now continue to expose and extinguish any hot spots that may exist within the storage facility,” the council previously said.
“Due to the nature of this incident, this will be an ongoing process and the Cork County Council would again like to reassure the public that all operations are being conducted in a highly controlled manner.”
Smoke from the fire in the port of Cork yesterday morning.
The Cork County Council said “there may be more fresh smoke from any flare when fire crews remove panels from structures to access hot spots.”
“The material involved remains unchanged and is a natural, organic animal feed,” the council said.

“Fire crews will remain on site until this operation is completely complete.”
The fire broke out yesterday at the R & H Hall grain warehouse for animal feed in Ringaskiddy Deepwater Berth, at an animal feed storage facility near the port of Cork.
R&H Hall apologized to “local residents, neighboring businesses, and our customers for any inconvenience caused by the incident.”
“We would like to thank the emergency services and the Port of Cork team for their quick response and continued management of the incident,” he said.
Local residents were advised to stay indoors while the smoke spread and to keep windows and doors closed.
