Tributes paid to teenager James Harrison after tragic fall in Dingle, Co Kerry

The teenager who died after a fall in Dingle, Co Kerry on Sunday has been locally named James Harrison.

The 17-year-old from Salthill, Galway is believed to have been out for a walk with his family in Dingle when he fell from a height.

A major search operation was carried out, but sadly the teenager was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

James lives and goes to school in Galway, although his mother is believed to be from Dingle, Co Kerry.

The talented young Gaelic footballers club Salthill Knocknacarra paid tribute to James after his sad passing.

They said in a statement: “Everyone at the Salthill Knocknacarra GAA club is deeply saddened by Kerry’s news today of the loss of our minor soccer star James Harrison.

“Our condolences go out to Maura, Matthew, Daniel, Aoife, the extended family and all of James’s friends at this difficult time.”

James attended Colaiste Iognaid Jesuit High School.

A private family funeral will be held on Wednesday in Galway in accordance with HSE guidelines.

Gardai confirmed that they are investigating the tragic death that is being treated as an accident.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí and emergency services received reports of a 17-year-old who entered the sea after a fall in the Bull Head area of ​​Lispole, Co. Kerry, on the afternoon of 01/03. / 2020.

After a Gardaí search and rescue operation assisted by members of the Coast Guard, RNLI and Dingle Search and Rescue, the body of the young man was recovered. He was later pronounced dead and has since been transferred to the Kerry University Hospital morgue. .

“Investigations are ongoing.”
