A man who died after an apparent assault on a Co Kildare road in the early hours of yesterday morning has been locally named Mark Loughlin (29).
r Loughlin, a native of Edenderry, Co Offally, was found on a country road in Allenwood South after Gardaí attended an earlier incident nearby.
Gardaí is treating Mr. Loughlin’s discovery just before 4 am as related to the above incident which occurred around 1 am.
In the first incident, the Robertsown gardaí responded to a public order incident in Allenwood South.
A silver Audi car was reported to have been involved in a collision with a red Renault Traffic pickup.
But when Gardaí arrived at the scene, no complaint was made to the officers.
Two vehicles were detained pending forensic examinations.
Local man Michael O’Kelly told the Irish independent his family heard banging and screaming just before 2 a.m. and did not know what was happening.
“We could hear crashes and blows and raised voices and then the gardaí came,” he said.
“The helicopter was on the scene for about 20 minutes,” he added.
Later, at 3.49 am, Gardaí received a new call about another incident of public order or assault in the same area.
When they arrived, they discovered Mr. Loughlin lying on the road receiving CPR.
He was taken by ambulance to the Naas General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The scene in Allenwood South remained sealed yesterday for a forensic examination.
A Garda sign on the highway stopped traffic on the narrow, winding country road, and a Garda tape could be seen on the other side of a house entrance at a bend in the road.
It was understood that Mr. Loughlin, who also used the nickname “Yob”, became a father last October.
Gardaí knew him and was jailed in February last year for 10 months for hitting a 16-year-old girl on the head on a street in Offaly in August 2019.
He had also been sentenced to three and a half years in December 2015 for a violent act on the night of June 18 and the morning of June 19, 2015, when he fired a shot at Gardaí from the passenger seat of a car when the Gardaí they were trying to stop him.
He had told Gardai that he intended to use the weapon to pressure someone to pay off a drug debt.
Loughlin’s family declined to comment on his death yesterday.
Gardaí is seeking information on the movement of a silver Audi A4, registration 09CN6292 on Saturday night until early morning yesterday, as well as information regarding the incident between the silver Audi A4 and the Red Renault Traffic van in the Allenwood area. .
