As part of a series looking at former Irish League clubs, RTÉ Sunday Sport reporter Mike McCartney looks at the history of Home Farm FC, the 1975 FAI Cup champions and the historic hotbed of Irish football.
Founded in 1928 by Don Seery and Brendan Menton Snr, the club is most famous for its youth arm and its role in developing some of Ireland’s best players, including Jackie Carey, Liam Whelan, John Giles, Liam Brady, Ronnie Whelan and Richard Dunne. .
The club participated in the League of Ireland between 1972 and 1999, under the guise of Home Farm Everton between 1995 and 1999.
Their greatest achievement as an Irish League club came when they unexpectedly won the FAI Cup in 1975, defeating Shelbourne 1-0 in the final.
