The Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of all Ireland has asked RTÉ to remove what he described as a “deeply offensive and blasphemous clip”, which aired as part of a New Year’s Eve countdown program.

In a tweet, Archbishop Eamon Martin said he was “surprised” that the show’s producer or editor “did not realize how deeply offensive a mocking ‘news report’ was that accused God of rape and denounced his imprisonment. “.

He continued: “To broadcast such a deeply offensive and blasphemous clip about God and our Blessed Mother Mary during the holiday season on ‘NYE Countdown Show’ on @RTE, @RTEOne and on the eve of the Solemn Feast of Mary, Mother of God is insulting all Catholics and Christians. “

Dr. Martin also added the Twitter username of RTÉ CEO Dee Forbes.

In a ‘Waterford Whispers’ news report, hosted by former RTÉ News host Aengus MacGrianna, God is described as “the latest figure involved in the ongoing sexual harassment scandals.”

The clip ended with a sentence that film producer Harvey Weinstein, who is serving a 23-year sentence in the United States for rape and sexual assault, had “requested a new trial in Ireland.”

When contacted last night, an RTÉ spokesperson had no comment to make.
