The new season of Reeling in the Years will return to RTÉ in the spring

RTÉ’s ubiquitous and ever-popular Reeling in the Years program will return this year for a recap of the new decade of the years 2010-2019.

The previous series of the show included the years 2000-2009 and aired at the end of 2010. Therefore, the new series of the show was expected to air 10 years later, but did not air in 2020.

RTÉ previously confirmed that the show would look back to the 2010s, but no air date had been set.

The broadcaster has now confirmed that the new season is scheduled to air as part of the spring calendar in 2021.

Reeling in the Years was first made in 1999 and featured the events of the 1980s. Since then, it has spawned four more series, with episodes now covering each year from 1962 to 2009.

The first year of the new series will be especially followed, as it will feature the rescue of Ireland by the EU and the IMF.

Reeling in the Years producer John O’Regan previously explained to TheJournal.ie That show-making process involves looking at a variety of different sources before selecting about 70 different stories and narrowing them down to about 35 for each episode.
