Statement on preschools that will be closed until January 11
“By postponing the return of these children to the preschool program, the social mix will be reduced, which will help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the post-Christmas period.
“The preschool program will now resume on January 11, in line with the reopening of schools.
“The Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth will provide funds to providers for the preschool program during the week of January 4-8.
“Under full Level 5 COVID-19 restrictions, early education and child care services, including childcare providers who provide services other than or in addition to the preschool program, can continue to function.
“These services provide an essential service that helps parents get to work.
“The Minister asks these services, which are private companies, to reopen as planned as of January 4 to provide childcare, especially to priority groups.”
