Gardaí found about 15 people yesterday at a suspected “shebeen” in Co Kildare.

In a statement, the Garda Press Office said the venue had “all the trimmings of a traditional pub.”

The images released by gardaí show that the place at the back of a house was decorated with seats, flags and other decorations on the wall, a Christmas tree and a pool table, as well as the necessary equipment to serve alcohol.

“Gardaí in Kildare executed a search warrant for a suspected Shebeen location operating near Kildare Town, last night, Thursday, December 31, 2020 at approximately 8.30 pm,” the statement said.

He said the illegal pub was in a shed at the back of a house. “The shed had all the trimmings of a traditional pub. Gardaí took details of all the people present inside the shed, seized the intoxicating liquor and the opticians for drinks and the alcohol dispensers. “

He said that investigations were ongoing and that a full investigation file will be sent to the Director of the Public Prosecutor’s Office for his address.

In November, Garda sources said demand for places to meet and socialize would increase during Christmas and New Years as the “wet bars” were not open, but said Operation Navigation, which targets trade license violations, it would intensify.
