More than 30 residents of a private nursing home in Kerry are being tested following a Covid-19 outbreak at the facility.
Some 13 staff members at Ocean View Nursing Home in Camp, near Tralee, have been confirmed to have the virus. Confirmed Covid-19 cases came to light during the biweekly serial testing of home staff.
Ocean View Nurse Home is part of the Aperee Nursing Home Group, which has several facilities in Kerry.
The HSE and the Department of Public Health, as well as Hiqa, have been notified of the outbreak and are providing assistance to the administration.
Resident testing began Wednesday and is continuing. It is not yet known if there are confirmed cases of the virus among residents.
In a statement, Aperee said the facility has enacted its contingency plan and is actively managing the situation.
“As part of our biweekly serial testing for staff, we have been informed that several Ocean View Nursing Home staff have tested positive for Covid-19. We are in ongoing contact with the HSE and the Department of Public Health and have notified to Hiqa, “they said.
“Our primary focus is our residents and we keep our residents’ families informed at all times. We continue to actively manage the situation.”
Kerry saw its highest number of daily cases this week with 57 confirmed cases Tuesday.
The vaccines will be rolled out in nursing homes in Kerry and across the country in the coming weeks.
Currently, Ocean View residents and staff are due to receive their first dose on January 29, the last day of the first phase of the vaccine program in Kerry.
