Met Eireann issues fresh snow and ice warning as 11 counties experience major freeze

Louth, Cavan and Monaghan will join eight other counties under a snow and ice warning.

Met Eireann is also forecasting a major freeze for Donegal, Leitrim, Sligo, Antrim, Armagh, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry.

Temperatures are expected to plummet to -2 ° C tonight, and will not improve much in the coming days.

One forecaster said: “Today is very cold with scattered winter rains, especially in the Northwest and West coastal counties, but with good periods of sunshine in the afternoon.”
