Mikel Arteta praised his team after Arsenal claimed their second win on the rebound against Brighton.

The Gunners headed into this game after being boosted by their 3-1 win over Chelsea last time out. Arteta’s men had failed to win any of their previous seven games before their encounter against the Blues on Boxing Day.

The Gunners got off to a slow start against Brighton as they failed to register a single shot on goal in the first half.

But Arsenal stepped up their game in the second half and came close to scoring through Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Gabriel Martinelli.

Alexandre Lacazette was substituted in the 66th minute and instantly made the difference. Bukayo Saka picked up the ball just inside his own half and spun Dan Burn.

The youngster advanced positively towards Brighton’s goal before laying it on a plate for Lacazette inside the penalty area. The Frenchman finished calmly in the bottom corner after having been on the field for just 21 seconds.

This victory takes Arsenal to 13th place. They have six victories in their 16 Premier League games and are now seven points behind Man United in fourth place.

Speaking to Amazon Prime Video after the game, quoted by BBC SportArteta said the “image of his team looks much better” after his recent victories.

“We know that we have had problems with the results. The fact that we won against Chelsea was a huge boost. Coming here and getting another win was hugely important.

“I am proud for the boys and happy for the result. [Alexandre] Lacazette is in a good time. He is full of confidence. We wanted to change teams in the second half and give it some freshness.

“We were not threatening in certain areas. In the second half we seemed much more confident and we were playing later.

“The best medicine is victory. It is a different world and a different story. The image looks much better.

“For any manager, it is quite difficult considering the context [of 2020] – It was quite a challenge. I have suffered at times but I have great people around me ”.
