Snow and ice advisory issued for Cork and 12 other counties

A yellow snow and ice status advisory has been issued for much of South East Ireland.

The warning will go into effect at midnight and will remain in effect until 12pm on Wednesday.

The warning is in effect for Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Wexford, Wicklow, Offaly, Donegal, Leitrim, Sligo, Cork, Tipperary, and Waterford.

Met Éireann has warned that there is a risk of snow accumulations at lower levels.

A similar advisory also exists for five northern counties.

Issued by the UK Met Office, there is a yellow snow and ice status advisory for Antrim, Armagh, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry.

The warning is in effect from 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday to 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday.

Met Éireann predicts there will be spells cleared tonight before turning icy and icy early in the evening.

Wednesday will see an icy start.

Met Éireann said: “Rain, sleet and snow in the southern half of the country will clear to the southeast during the day with bright spells and scattered winter rains from the northwest.”

It is forecast to be a cold day with temperatures “generally rising a little above freezing and only slightly less cold on the coasts.”

The outlook for the remainder of the week is set to be “cold and rainy” with “widespread frost and ice overnight.”
