The Health Department has confirmed 1,546 new cases of Covid-19 and 9 additional deaths. This means that the Republic of Ireland has recorded its highest number of daily cases since the start of the pandemic.
Currently, 2,213 people have died from the disease in the Republic, while a total of 88,439 cases have been discovered.
When combined with the latest figures for Northern Ireland, 1,566 cases in the North (also a record), it brings the total daily new cases to 3,112 on the island of Ireland.
In terms of geographic location, Dublin accounted for 444 of today’s new cases. Elsewhere, Cork (203), Louth (111), Limerick (87) and Donegal (85) also recorded high numbers.
The remaining 616 cases are spread across all other counties.
At 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 29, 411 patients with COVID-19 are hospitalized, of which 34 are in the ICU.
There were 47 additional hospitalizations in the last 24 hours. The 7-day incidence is 151.8, while the 5-day moving average is 1,073.
