Cabinet will meet Wednesday to discuss further restrictions with NPHET recommending a full Level Five shutdown.
Health Minister Stephen Donnelly said they are “very concerned” about the situation and that many additional restrictions will be discussed.
Speaking on RTE News at One, Fianna’s Minister of Faults said: “NPHET is of the opinion … that we need to move to what they would call full Level Five.
“The reason the Cabinet will meet tomorrow is to analyze the measures that are in force and consider the restrictions in light of the cases.”
The minister added: “We, along with NPHET, are very concerned about several areas.”
The minister listed increased hospitalizations, rapid case growth and “very rapid growth in the UK” due to the new strain as areas of greatest concern.
The emergency Cabinet meeting will take place tomorrow at 2:30 pm.
Visits to stores, gyms and homes, as well as travel limits will be discussed.
